I started HRT 13 years ago when I was 47. I am 60 now. It was a game changer!! My GYN here in SC has his own lab. I get progesterone 200mg capsules or night and LDN, Low Dose Naltrexone, magnesium and I take melatonin. My perfect formula for sleep. 100mg of progesterone in the morning. Vaginal Estrogen cream 3-4x a week. 2 testosterone pellets and 1 estrogen pellet every 6-7 months. Yes they last that long! I love that I found Mary Claire to hear what she has to say.
I'm 46, and now learning what I've learned in the last year about perimenopause, I believe it might be the cause for many issues that I've been dealing with over the last 6 years. With that being said, I am on a mission to seek care. I just started with a new doctor. While she is great in that she listens to me, she did say that I can't start any form of HRT until a year after my last menstrual cycle and considered menopausal. Is this true?
I can totally relate to this. I started peri transition at age 37, I was hot, night sweats, dizzy, short term memory loss, brain fog. It's as if my hormones were all over the place.

Please conduct a larger study now to get more scientific info. Women aren’t studied in large numbers so maybe you can change that. Dr Haver states that most women studies are quite small.
I’m very curious whether you would support the use of long term MHT to mitigate the risks of osteoporosis, dementia, and heart disease etc? If women now are living for 2-3 decades into post menopause, compared to 100 years ago when lifespans were considerably shorter, does it make sense to start MHT and remain on it for the rest of one’s life (taking into account contra-indications of course)?
Perhaps a suggestion for a future post: The distinction between “normal” aging and changes that are due to losing our hormones. It’s clear that the two overlap, but the majority of my friends are convinced they are “through” menopause and now all the physical problems etc they’re experiencing are due to “normal” aging. Even if I mention some of the data we already know, like the impact of early hormone loss on younger women’s health, etc, my friends’ eyes just glaze over …
I don’t understand their refusal to learn something new.
Thank you for giving me the push to take a deeper look at what the heck was going on with me.
Thank you!!!
Thank you! This was all very important and helpful information. I appreciate everything you do for us.
Thank you!!!

I love the way you’re able to explain things so simple and clearly. I wish I knew more of this when I was in Perimenopause! Thank you doc.

What is the treatment for perimenopause? I'm at a loss of where to start, I live in South Africa.
This study measured and compared levels from 11 perimenopausal women. ELEVEN. In 1996.
Is this one small study really what the “zone of chaos” is built on?
